Особи та групи, які пропагують права людини
У всьому світі захисники громадянських свобод і прав людини (правозахисни(ці)ки) все частіше зазнають нападів, а середовище, в якому громадянське суспільство може діяти вільно, звужується. Це явище має місце не лише в країнах, які очолюються репресивними чи автократичними урядами, а й у державах, що сформувалися в демократії.

Ми всі маємо право та відповідальність за підтримку прав людини та захист демократії та її інститутів. Правозахисники – це ті з нас, які активно це роблять. У всьому світі захисники громадянських свобод і прав людини (правозахисники) все частіше зазнають нападів, а середовище, в якому громадянське суспільство може діяти вільно, звужується. Це явище має місце не лише в країнах, які очолюються репресивними чи автократичними урядами, а й у державах, що існували з демократією. Зокрема, свобода вираження поглядів, свобода асоціацій та зібрань, свобода інформації та право на приватне життя зазнають все більшого нападу. І компанії, і захисники мають спільний інтерес у повній повазі громадянських свобод, що характеризуються недискримінацією, прозорим та підзвітним урядом та свободою від корупції.

Приоритезація інтересів бізнесу над інтересами громад і працівників є одним із ключових викликів, з якими стикаються захисники. Правозахисники, які стикаються з бізнес-інтересами – будь то юристи у сфері прав людини, трудові активісти та профспілки, захисники землі та навколишнього середовища, антикорупційні активісти чи журналісти з прав людини – є одними з тих захисників, які найбільше ризикують. Вони є ключовими агентами змін і вносять великий внесок у захист прав людини та забезпечення корпоративної відповідальності.
